Using the bot

Assistant is a Discord bot. Adding it to a server, or using it in a server it is already in, means these terms apply to you. If you do not agree with them, do not use it: nothing here is a command you have to run, and the bot will simply decline to act for you.

Some of what the bot does is decided by a language model. It is asked to work out a sequence of operations and to carry them out, and it can only ever use the same operations a person can, with the same permission checks applied. It can get things wrong. Anything that changes a server or a member is shown to you before it runs, and anything a model does is recorded against whoever asked for it.

What you are responsible for

You are responsible for what you ask the bot to do. An operation carried out because you asked for it is your action, recorded against your account, and a server’s administrators can see it. Asking the bot to do something you are not permitted to do does not make it permitted: the bot checks, and refuses.

Server administrators are responsible for how the bot is configured in their server, including which roles are treated as staff and what the bot is allowed to do on their behalf.

What we are responsible for

The bot is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it is available, or that a model’s judgement is correct. It is not a substitute for a moderator reading something themselves. Where the bot has acted wrongly and the record shows it, the record is the record: it is kept precisely so that mistakes can be found rather than argued about.

Ending it

Remove the bot from a server and it stops acting there immediately. What was configured is kept for a period afterwards so that a removal which turns out to be a mistake does not cost a year of settings, and is then deleted. Anyone may ask for their data to be deleted sooner, and it will be.

Changes

These terms are versioned. Changing them publishes a new version and asks you to accept it; it does not quietly apply to an acceptance you gave to something else. Every version anyone has accepted stays readable at its own address.

What this covers

Accepting these lets the assistant act on what you ask it for. Slash commands and the bot’s automatic behaviour are not affected either way: they are the server’s configuration rather than your request, and are governed by the permissions the bot was invited with.
